Green Schools
The Green Schools committee includes students from all year groups, with elections at the start of each year for additional leadership roles. We welcome everyone interested in joining and meet every Tuesday lunchtime in Room 209.
In May 2024, the St Leo’s Green Schools Committee is proud to announce that we achieved the flag for Global Citizenship Travel, a culmination of three years of hard work by our committee.
As part of achieving the award, we have raised awareness on sustainable travel to school. Through initiatives such as the Big Travel Challenge, W.O.W. (Walk on Wednesdays), and Clean Air Week, we have successfully increased the number of students walking, carpooling, and taking the bus to school. We won a prize of €200 and the award for “Best Travel School in Carlow” in the Big Travel Challenge
As part of the award, the committee also created a video to highlight the importance of sustainable travel. Watch our St. Leo's College Green Schools Travel Video on YouTube to see the journey!

St. Leo's College Green School Team are constant innovators and work hard to promote environmental awareness. Recycling is a key focus for the the team and this year the school supported the drive to increase waste recycling by installing recycling bins around the school campus. Students are encouraged to use the recycling bins to dispose of their waste and protect the environment.
The Green School Team planted an oak tree as part of their plan to improve the natural environment on campus and raise awareness of the importance of trees for air quality, sustainable flora and fauna habitats and general wellbeing.
Our Polytunnel, vegetable and flower beds are a great resource and help to educate the school community on all aspects of horticulture.
Well done to the Home Economics Department who are now composting!
